The Pornadoes were formed in July 2011, when Minnesotan T. "Tommy Ramshaft" Zgonc and Wisconsinites J. "Mr. Goessl" Goessl and E. "Chet Gracenote" Sobotta (now residents of Seattle) decided to form a band paying respect to their Midwest homeland. Goessl, the curator and musical director of the project, formed the group just to have fun, and who better to have fun with than a couple of accomplished, professional musicians born and raised in the Midwest? They collectively recorded two albums of virtuosic surf and western swing instrumentals, "Now Serving..." (2012) and "The Pornadoes...In Space" (2013), and played locally and regionally while balancing time with numerous other artistic and personal commitments.
In early 2014, the Pornadoes were hired to accompany a live burlesque event produced by Seattle burlesque impressarios Lily Verlaine & Jasper McCann. McCann, a fellow Midwesterner, singer, and lover of mid-century musical style since childhood, immediately jelled with the band. After a series of sit-in gigs, one-offs, and a fateful night at the Sloop Tavern with Mr. Goessl, McCann joined the group in the spring of 2015 as its first full-time lead singer and lyricist.
The band began work on original charts and first played their new material at Cafe Racer on August 15, 2015. They recorded their first track together ("Victory Rolls") at Ground Kontrol Studios in Ballard, Seattle WA in September of 2015. They continued to write and record with Tom Meyers through the rest of 2016. The band released its third studio album (and first with McCann on vocals), "Launchpad Omega" in April of 2017
Their fourth studio album, titled "Go Tiger, GO!" was cut in two days in January of 2019 at the famous London Bridge Studio, known for being the room where most of Seattle's Grunge-era Royalty recorded. Recorded and mixed by renowned Engineer and Producer Jonathan Plum, the album was released on vinyl and digital on April 20, 2019.
The Pornadoes continue to build a catalogue of new work, inspired by the "four corners of the great American musical baseball diamond": Jazz, Surf, Rockabilly, and Country Swing. Committed to bringing the public the finest in "new-fangled old-fashioned music", expect to see and hear lots more from The Pornadoes in 2019 and beyond...
